I GOT EVICTED!!!!

So.. it's been a really tough couple of days for this New Yorker...I woke up on Thursday morning to a knock on the door telling me our whole building was being served a vacate notice.. this meant we had an hour to pack our personal belongings and vacate the building.

We gathered our stash and waited outside the building to be told their were issues with the lack of exit signs, handrails and exit doors in the building.. not to mention the sprinkler system didn't work and the building didn't have a certificate of occupancy.

So we left... as the fire trucks, NYPD, Department of Building and Red Cross were dealing with the 40-50 misplaced residents.

I'm now staying @ my favorite person (and most hospitable) Erin's place in East Village AGAIN until I can find a new abode.. Have spent the last 3 days treking around the city trying to find a new apartment...OH... Did I mention the vacate notice has now been changed to a permanent eviction?!?

If New York doesn't kill you, it can only make you stronger!

Stay tuned.. hopefully I won't be homeless for the winter... brrrrrrrr!

Sydneys blazing red skies

Wow! The weather in Sydney is doing crazy things!
Just checked smh online and saw these images that are sweeping across the internet right now. Apparently dust storms in the inland areas of NSW and South Australia have carried the dust across to Sydney.
Wish I was there to see it! The weather works in mysterious ways right now.
It was 100F in my friends car today.
Not cool.

R.I.P MARY TRAVERS & PATRICK SWAYZE...

What a tough year this has been with deaths in the entertainment industry!

I'm sad to say goodbye to Patrick Swayze (1952-2009) a talented actor who every girl will remember from his breakout film Dirty Dancing...

'Nobody puts baby in the corner'

He also starred in such amazing cult flicks like Ghost and Point Break..

On September 29th his inspirational memoir 'The Time of My Life', co-written with his wife, will be published.. It will be a MUST READ for me... I love something he was quoted saying in 2005 to EW.

"Dance is a metaphor for life. You're born. You peak. Your physical body goes downhill, but your sprit stays intact"

Sadly another great musician passed away too on Wednesday... Mary Travers from the 60's trio Peter, Paul and Mary.

They were famous for one of the most talked about songs 'Puff (The Magic Dragon)' which many believed to be about marijuana. They have always dismissed this rumor stating "there never was a different meaning that the obvious one... about the loss of innocence of children'.

Peter, Paul and Mary also had hit songs 'Lemon Tree', 'If I had a Hammer', 'Leaving on Jet Plane' and 'Where have all the Flowers Gone?'.

ON ANOTHER NOTE..

It's not as exciting as Fashion Week in New York, but my brother, Sam, is doing some amazing things with bar design back home, in Sydney.
Just wanted to share his blog with you..

Check it out if you have time!

I'm planning on uploading some LA love posts soon, things have just been super manic with work and moving and life, sorry Mum! :)

DAZED & CONFUSED...

New York Fashion Week is drawing to a close but boy has it been fun fun in the sun...

Went to the REEBOK STYLE fashion week event on Monday night which celebrated a retrospective of Reebok's collective stylings and to preview their Spring/Summer 2010 collections.

More pictures here:

Afterwards, we headed to the Dazed and Confused party @ The Jane hotel- best party ever... I was literally in HEAVEN. The guests @ the party read like a page from any gossip mag... Courtney Love, Kim Gordon, Terry Richardson, Kirsten Dunst, Lily Donaldson, Peaches Geldof, Shenae Grimes, Bjork, Frances Bean Cobain and Jared Leto just to name a few I saw!!

Check out some pics from The Cobra Snake:

We kicked on at the Ksubi afterparty @ Baddies under the Kingswood where the usual throng of Aussie cats can be found playing.

Top parties + Top friends= Top night!

p.s- Anyone seen my hat??!!

FASHION'S NIGHT OUT...

It was 'Fashion's Night Out' in New York on Thursday- an event that encouraged all fashion stores to stay open and implement creative customer experiences... I went to the Opening Ceremony Trunk Show, Topshop party with DJ Lissy Trullie, Uni's Store Party and finished it off with a party at The Smile.
The Smile is a really cool bar in Soho on Bond St- the Selby just featured them on their site too:

Self promotion shame 101- I got a mention in the Huffington Post as one of the favourite looks of the night haha (I looked AWFUL).

THELMA & LOUISE ROADTRIPPING...

Last weekend was Labour Day weekend... and the last time one should wear white apparently!

Inidigo, Jen and I went to Atlantic City in Jersey for the w/end which says it all really :-)

We stayed @ this amazing 'rockstar penthouse' in the Chelsea Hotel and drove up in Jen's convertible BMW... so Sex And The City of us gals...

The aftermath reminded me of this scene...

Atlantic City thanks for having us!

GRACE CODDINGTON IS A VISIONARY...

I spent a lazy Friday night at a friend's place watching 'The Semptember Issue' on a projector in her backyard in Williamsburg... I highly suggest you check it out. The doco is about the making of the biggest-ever issue of Vogue and follows the editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and her staff behind the scenes of the crazy world of fashion.

Grace Coddington the creative director @ Vogue is a genius. Her work for the magazine which has spanned the past 20 years in just magical.. she reeks of pure talent and deserves all the praise @ the magazine at large. The conflict between Coddington and Wintour becomes one of the key elements to the film and dates back to the late 80's when they both begun @ Vogue.

I had never heard of Grace until I saw this film and now have the upmost respect for her legendery work.

VIRGIN MOBILE FREEFEST...

I have been working for the past couple of weeks on the Virgin Mobile festival in Columbia, Maryland. It was really nice to work on a project that is giving back to the community and providing free entertainment in our current economy... All donations from the festival went to the Richard Branson's Regeneration program which helps aid misplaced youth.. such a good cause!

Red Bull had 2 skydivers jump from a plane over the festival and land on the Pavilion roof to meet Richard Branson... it was quite an amazing stunt and the crowd was loosing it.

I was also proud of Blink-182 for performing after the death of their close friend DJ AM. They said some beautiful words about Adam and went on with the show... they said it was what he would have wanted them to do.

RIP DJ AM

So I guess yesterday in LA, there was a super private funeral for Adam Goldstein, who was found dead in his apartment last week of an apparent drug overdose. And yesterday afternoon they also held a memorial for him in Hollywood for him with an after party/wake in his tribute.
Alicia and I had the priviledge of being on his final tour with him for Bacardi over the Summer this year in the US.
Hearing the news was particularly shocking this time as we had seen how much of a truly amazingly talented DJ he was and we had spent 3 months on the road watching him play and seeing how popular he was.
As one of his DJ buddies said to me last night, he was a role model for so many kids and he didn't just work on getting himself to the top, he took those kids with him. He will be missed my many. He was the most successful DJ in America. Just goes to show how special life is, how much we can't take anything for granted and how little we really know about one another. If your friends are having a bad day or they are a little short with you and you think it has something to do with you, chances are they have other things on their mind they are not telling you. I guess sometimes all it takes is for us to ask and just to think more about others. Cherish your life and friends and have a wonderful day.

SOUL SEARCHIN'

I just discovered this great astrologer, Christopher Witeki and this website Soul Garden (http://www.soulgardencollective.tv/).
Basically he gives you a run down on your sign, weekdays.
Today he tells me it's a full moon and if I'm going to be going out partying this weekend, that I'd better be careful and cautious as my emotions are running high right now.
And that I need to focus on my home and foundation before my career can take its desired course. Hmmm... Sounds a little too familiar.
Interesting though, I've always believed in the power of astrology.
Worth checking out for a hot minute.

BEER IN BOOTS AND MODELING SHOOTS.

LA is on fire at the moment, literally! There have been huge bushfires in the hills and the city has been a constant 100 degrees lately. So crazy humid. Not good when you are moving house, which is what I have been doing.
After pretty much vowing to never live there again after our crazy experiences there in the first 3 months, (car accidents with police cars ring any bells?!) I've moved to Hollywood again. Found a cute little one bedroom. I've never lived alone and I'm really excited about just having my own space, too many years in share houses!
A couple of weekends ago some friends and I went to Sunset Junction. It's street fair in Silverlake that they throw every year. Bands like The Sonics and Arrested Development were playing this year, fun, food, music and booze. Good times!
We went to this bar after called the Red Lion. They serve beer in glass boots! But don't even think about trying to tuck it away under your jacket, they make you put a $100 deposit down just in case.. Guess more than one person has tried that one.
I've also started writing for an onilne magazine in Australia called Kluster. If you haven't checked them out, go to kluster.com.au
I recently wrote about my amazingly talented and beautiful sister, Natalia and her jewelery line, N.om. And on Monday, I was in Glendora hills with Jason Lee Parry, shooting a behind-the-scenes of a fashion shoot for Baby Baby Baby magazine. Few stills below but still working on the story.
LA has been good to me in these last few months. Bought my first car, found a new apartment and have made some of the most amazing friends ever.
Living,
Loving

Laughing...
